As of the latest news, the Union Chapel Mine, the source of more than 1600 slabs bearing Early Pennsylvanian trackways, is still scheduled for reclamation by the end of August. However, it's not over yet, and its passing will not go unnoticed: Stokstad, Erik. 2003. Ancient trackways in strip mine threatened with reburial. Science, 301(8 August): 746. http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/summary/301/5634/746?etoc Thanks to Erik Stokstad and Emma Rainforth for calling this to my attention. Thanks also to those who have written letters of support to Dr. Prescott Atkinson, who is leading the effort to preserve the site [PAtkinson@peds.uab.edu]. Cheers, Andrew K.
