Mike and all, E.D.Cope was using plaster much earlier than 1884 as you know. I think there is somewhere in his letters a mention of this. I will try to see if I can hunt it up and let everyone know. Legend has it that Cope learned this technique from Sternberg and I think that this is probably correct. See what I can dig up.
