The Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) in Ithaca, NY has an immediate full-time opening for a Collections Assistant. Duties will include running day-to-day operations of the Collections Department under the supervision of the Director, including processing of loans, working with volunteers and scientific visitors, and coordinating ongoing curation of a collection of more than 2 million specimens, mostly invertebrates. In the coming year, a particular and immediate duty will be working with exhibits staff and the exhibit fabrication/specimen mounting team preparing for the opening of 8,000 sq ft of permanent exhibits -- including at least 750 specimens -- in the new 18,000 sq ft Museum of the Earth, scheduled to open in May 2003. Significant background in paleontology, including at least a Bachelor's degree, is required. Collections experience a plus. The successful applicant will be energetic and a team player, as well as technically proficient in the discipline. Salary dependent on experience. Full and excellent benefits.
