I am a retired computer scientist/mathematician and have just started a research MPhil in palaeontology at Edinburgh University as a retirement pastime under the supervision of Professor Euan Clarkson. My research topic is concerned with the Carboniferous trilobite genus Paladin, and I particularly hope to make a detailed study of the ontogeny and cuticular development of Paladin mucronatus (M'Coy, 1844). As part of this work I plan to attempt: i). to construct "maps" of terrace line structure using image analysis techniques; and ii). to analyse pygidial variation and development using morphometrics. I have a little previous experience of image analysis, but am entirely new to morphometrics. I would particularly value hearing from any fellow palaeontologists with interest and expertise in these fields. Thank you. John Hampton
