There are a number of imaginative uses for a digital camera but for making copies of slides, negatives or hard copy the appropriate tool is a scanner. Not only will you get a significantly better image, it's a lot easier. Current scanners often come with transparency adapters for slide and negatives and the advertised resolution for at least one flat bed scanner is 2400 pixels per inch.
