Collections Manager (invertebrates), Department of Palaeontology, The Natural History Museum, London, United Kingdom Closing Date: 21st January 2002. The Department of Palaeontology is seeking an experienced curator to manage one of its Invertebrate Curation Teams and to support its Collections Management Theme, both in the Department and within the Museum. The Collections Manager of the Mollusc and Brachiopod Team supervises a group of three full-time Curators and large collections,which in addition to the above includes worms and sponges. You will be responsible for managing the Invertebrate Curation B Team,as well as curation, conservation, databasing, enhancing and making the collections available to researchers and other interested parties. The Collections Manager will also support research themes within the Department and Museum, contribute to revenue generation,and play an active role in the Museum 's Collections Management Theme. You will have a BSc in earth science or equivalent,and a minimum of 5 years experience in collections management. You will be a specialist with taxonomic knowledge in at least one of the groups covered by the curation team.You should also have good management skills and be computer literate. It is essential that you be able to engage in commercial-consulting projects and communicate with the broad range of Museum audiences. A post-graduate degree in earth science,an appropriate qualification in museum studies or equivalent would be an advantage. Starting salary (£24,098-£37,215 p. a.) is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Benefits include a non-contributory pension scheme and a generous holiday leave entitlement.
