All, I recently came across a fragment of the lower jaw of an mosasaur that had three oval holes (about 3 mm x 2 mm) in it. Depth of the two larger holes is 5-6 mm. There is no indication that the holes were caused by a bite(s)... although they may have been caused by an infection from some sort of surface wound like a bite. I have never seen anything quite like this in mosasaurs..... < http://www.oceansofkansas.com/mosapath.html > Please take a look and let me know if you have seen similar pathology in fossil bones (or any bone, for that matter).. and especially if you have any ideas what may have caused the holes in this bone.
