The following is a neobiological request, rather than paleobiological. Yet I hope someone knows the answer! Can anyone identify for me the species of arctic bird whose song forms the basis for the first movement ("The Bog") in the beautiful musical work by Rautavaara entitled "Cantus Arcticus"? I think I know, but would like to have all doubts removed. If anyone knows of an ornithological listserver, please cross-list this request for me! Here's wishing that birdsongs preserved in the fossil record, George McGhee mcghee@rci.rutgers.edu
