New PaleoNet Forum Site Up at PNP(West)

One of the (few?) good things that happened last week was that Rob managed
to reinstate my access to the Berkeley network. Therefore I was able to
make several long-overdue updates to the PaleoNet Pages (West) site. Among
these was the changing the PaleoNet Forum article to the current electronic
art exhibit. Just in case you missed the announcement the first time
around, The artist is Michael Amesbury and the subject matter is a series
of 3D renderings of various paleontological and archaeological subjects.
The (quite appropriate) collective title of the exhibit is "Ghost Dance."

Michael Amesbury has been working as a professional graphic artist for over
10 years, has had more than 30 single person and group exhibitions at art
galleries in the US and Europe, and has works in the permanent collections
of such institutions as the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Spencer Gallery
(NY), the Reiss-Museum (Mannheim) an the Geological Institute of the
University of Heidelberg. For the last five years Mike has employed various
3D imaging software to reconstruct the topography, artifacts and fauna
found in various archaeological sites around the world. Mike takes a lot of
pains to make sure his illustrations are as scientifically accurate as
possible. The result is graphic paleo. data in an aesthetically pleasing
form - always a winning combination.

The current PaleoNet exhibition includes the following "galleries."

Reconstructions of Mammonteus primigenius.
Reconstructions of the "fossil" insect Xenoraptor avis.
Reconstructions of the 0.5 Ma Homo erectus site at Bilsingsleben in Germany.
Stills from an animated flight through the Paleolithic cave of Lascaux.
Reconstructions of the megalithic stone circle on the island of el Lennec.
Reconstructions of a passage grave in Brittany.
Sill life studies of various archaeological artifacts.

The site has been organized so that you view a series of increasingly
higher-resolution images of the same illustration as you move from page to
page. Hopefully with will help with download times by letting you preview
the images at lower levels of resolution.

PaleoNet Forum site can be accessed from the PaleoNet Pages (West) home page...
