Almost as soon as I sent out the message informing the list about the source of the server problems at Berkeley (a rouge hacker) PaleoNet, along with several other Berkeley internet resources went down again. During any future breakdowns (should they occur) I'm going to take Stefan Bengston's suggestion and post status reports on the PaleoNet Pages (West and East) home pages. Since the pages have been more stable than the list itself (at least over the last few months) posting status reports to the pages during times of problems seems a natural thing to do. I wish I'd thought of the idea myself, but I didn't so hats off to Stefan for suggesting it. If you've posted anything to PaleoNet and haven't seen it come through please post it again. Rob Guralnick and his colleagues in Berkeley are still working hard to clean up the mess left behind by the hacker and there may be a few more surprises in store for us over the next couple of weeks. If PaleoNet seems to disappear again, check out the pages for the status report. Thanks for being patient with us.
