histology & taxonomy (posted for Rik Hill)

The message below is posted for Rik Hill whose attempts to post it while
PaleoNet was down last week met with dismal failure (sorry about that Rik).
If you tried to post a message while PaleoNet was offline and are unsure as
to whether it went out, please post it again. The problems with the
Berkeley server have now been corrected to the extent that PaleoNet is back
up and working normally. Many thanks to Rob Guralnick for helping get
PaleoNet back online.

Rik Hill's message follows:

I have a question for the paleo-osteopaths in the group. Let me
preface my question with the warning that I am a hobbist in
paleontology and therefore may not be as current as many out there.
Presently I am making thin sections (<100 microns at any rate)
of some bone chips. I wondered if bone histology can be used in
taxonomic classification of dinosaurs? If so, does anyone have
a favorite reference for this work?

Please respond directly to my address.

Thanks,

-Rik
