Rik Hill is probably correct. The networks and other "news" agencies do not
care what we think. Moreover, many of these so-called information agencies
are sympathetic to the pseudo-scientific and organized religious views of
topics such as human origins. On the other hand, there has been quite some
activity on Paleonet, for example, concerning the publicity surrounding
paleontology today. We can be discriminatory in our choice, or acceptance,
of media companies. There are responsible agencies out there. Not the
networks, but PBS, and even to a surprising degree, the Discovery Channel.
For those of you who deal with the media, via consulting or starring in
documentaries etc., boycott folks like NBC. And encourage your students to
view responsibly and critically. I've had great success with the latter. I
personally did not see the NBC special (I spend most of my viewing time on
Fox), but the mere mention of Charlton M. (for Moses) Heston sets off alarm
bells.
