Can anyone inform me and others on the status of the Paleontology and Stratigraphy divisions of the USGS? I was told that they have been eliminated in the recent cuts. I remember hearing that Senator(?) Kasich of Ohio was out to completely get rid of the USGS. It seems he is a creationist and was working to eliminate various government scientific institutions that promote or study evolution. Like I said I heard of this second hand and hope someone can further inform me. Also if the paleo and stratigraphy sections of the survey are being eliminated is this the end of paleo research at the USGS all together or will it be incorporated into other sections? always interested.
