This time of year every pundit of any persuasion is busy compiling a "year's best" list. I don't see why paleontology should be any different. Of course, with a field as broad as ours we'll need some categories (e.g., Best Paper in Vertebrate Paleontology, Best Paper in Invertebrate Paleontology, Best Paper in Micropaleontology, Best Book on Evolution). Are there any nominations? Note that the compilers of "official" geological year-end reviews ((e.g., the Geotimes review) are probably hard at work on their lists at this time. This is your chance to bring some worthy, but perhaps under-appreciated or obscure) papers, to their attention (as well as to our attention). Let's say that the paper must have been published in calendar year 1995 and that papers in paleontological, geological, and/or biological journals/books are all eligible. The only requirement is that the paper must deal with a subject of interest to paleontologists. Results will be summarized by yours truly and published in The PaleoNet Pages during the first week of the new year.
