Labs Status: O The suggestion by Joe Pachut that an educational directory be set up on Paleonet is a good one. I am sure that many of us on Paleonet would be very interested to learn how paleontology (or paleooceanography) is being taught around the world in the 90's. Like the exercise Dr. Pachut is presently involved with, a couple of years ago I redesigned the labs accompanying an evolutionary paleoecology class to be more problem-solving oriented and less focused on taxonomy. In conjunction with this change in focus I have computerized many of my labs. I have stepped back a bit from this approach a bit though because some students began to comment that paleontolgoy did not seem to have much to do with actual fossils! I have also built up a sizeable library of Macintosh Hypercard Stacks on various paleontological phenomena over the last few years. These were authored by students as course assignments. Some are very good with great photos and animation, and would be useful supplements to lab exercises. I am off for Christmas in a few minutes but in the new year will place some of these stacks on my home page for interested parties to download. Tim Dr. R.
