For your students and friends who would like a dig this summer consider the Paleontology Field Program of the Museum of the Rockies (Montana State University-Bozeman). It is located at the "Egg Mountain" site near Choteau, Montana, where Jack Horner uncovered dinosaur nests and embryos. This is an outstanding field experience. I have been to the Camp 3 times in the last 4 years. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, the food is great, the lodging is on site and is in Blackfeet style tipis. I strongly recommend this experience for anyone with an interest in dinosaurs and in getting some field experience. Three programs are available. 1) A Brief Experience in Paleontology: a one day experience, well suited to families whose children are ages 10 and older. Includes instruction in fossil identification, several hours of badlands exploration for fossils, a tour of paleontological sites, and lunch. 2) Introductory Field Paleontology-: A week long session which includes several types of field paleontology including small tool and hard rock excavation, prospecting for dinosaurs and other fossils in the badlands, and gathering geologic data. Also lectures, slide shows, discussions and evening programs. Minimum age 15. 3) Advanced Vertebrate Paleontology: A two week long session, similar to 2) above but with more time to participate in projects in greater depth. Emphasis is on field techniques and experiences. Minimum age 15.
