Dear all: Fernando wrote: > >ftp.nhm.ac.uk/paleonet/Newsletters > > I would like to download the Newsleter of the Palaeontological > Association. But when I try to connect FTP.NHM.AC.UK, my ftp display > me the message: "host unknown". Didn't you wrote wrongly ftp site > address in your previous message ? Interestingly enough, I also get "unknown host" when I try: ftp.nhm.ac.uk/paleonet/Newsletters Instead, try just: ftp.nhm.ac.uk This works fine. Then, once you are in, giving the command: cd paleonet and then: cd Newsletters and you should be in the right directory. This worked for me. Also interestingly enough, Mark Purnell posted a while ago to say that the newsletter is available on the WWW at the URL: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/paleonet/PalAss/Newsl26.html Unfortunately this one does not seem to fly either (at least for me). http://www.nhm.ac.uk will put you in the NHM's home page, but there does not seem to be any link from there to paleonet. Does this just mean it has not been implemented yet? Finally, on the matter of the paleonet Publication Exchange, I am aware that many people, like Neil, do not have ftp facility. The consensus of a few people I have spoken to recently seemed to be that it would be a good idea to be more proactive and post the weekly lists of offered/wanted publications to paleonet itself rather than just leaving them on an ftp site which many people do not have the time or facility to visit. This is not infeasible, since the lists are not that long. If anyone has any comments, I am pleased to receive them off net. Finally Finally, I don't know if Stig Bergstrom is on paleonet, but if you are, thanks for the reprint of Girvan succession conodonts which arrived just this morning.
