unsubscribe discussion

Sorry if there has been a recent increase in stray subscribe/unsubscribe
messages, it may in part be because I haven't (for complex reasons) been
trying to field these as they come in, which Norm usually does. (I have
just unsubscribed yesterdays problems though).

I will suggest this to Norm when he gets back - though I have to admit that
the listserver program we use (majordomo) is not the most flexible. If you
are thinking of the geoscience-jobs list (which does do this) I would note
that the plague of subscribe and unsubscribe messages only stopped when the
list was moderated - i.e. the list owner started checking every message
sent out (not an option we relish).

But to remind folks here is the relevant bit of The Friendly Manual

--------------------------
HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE ETC.

the subject line) TO

    unsubscribe paleonet
Unsubscribe yourself (or <address> if specified) from the named <list>.

    who paleonet
get a listing of all the subscribers to paleonet

    info paleonet

If the unsubscribe fails (e.g. if you have changed email address) then
sends a message to Norm or I asking for help - we can unsubscribe you from
here.
