Somehow I missed the essential definition of the Signor-Lipps Effect, without which the debate now raging is incomprehensible. Would someone care to enlighten me (in one sentence, if possible)? My guess is that it refers to the effect of the incompleteness of the fossil record such that mass extinction events get blurred at the edges.
