It looks like everyone on PaleoNet has been getting confirmation reports like the following... > Sender: owner-paleonet@nhm.ac.uk > Precedence: bulk > Reply-To: paleonet@nhm.ac.uk > > Confirmation of reading: your message - > > Date: 18 Nov 94 8:47 > To: paleonet@nhm.ac.uk > Subject: Crassostrea species > > Was read at 16:27, 18 Nov 94. > > This evidently stems from a posting to PaleoNet in which the poster had invoked a "Confirm Reading" option in Pegasus Mail. Pegasus Mail's 'Confirm Reading" option tells the originator of the message that the message has been received and read by the recipient. Unfortunately, PaleoNet has its Reply default set in such a way as to route the confirm message to the entire list rather then to the originator of the posting. In other words, this has happened because of an unanticipated interaction between Pegasus Mail and PaleoNet. This particular message will bounce around inside PaleoNet until everyone has read the original. There's nothing we can do about it. In future, though, PaleoNet subscribers who use Pegasus Mail should try to refrain from invoking the "Confirm Reading" option when posting messages to PaleoNet. PaleoNet thanks the Pegasus mail community in advance for its cooperation. Also, my enthusiasm for John Richardson's job ad appears to have gotten the better of me when I said that his was PaleoNet's first job posting. What I meant was that John's ad was the first to be formally announced over PaleoNet. All ads prior to John's that have appeared on PaleoNet were first announced on other Paleo. listservers. I know, it's a small point, but give me a break on this one. My life is exceedingly dull and I sometimes get carried away. Another PaleoNet job announcement will be posted later today.
