paleonet Temporary paleontology curatorial positions

Greetings listmembers:

John Day Fossil Beds has two temporary openings for paleontological museum
technicians, tentatively working from 30 May through 01 September.

We can fill this without a lot of fuss using the student hiring authority;
all one needs to do is produce a certification of enrollment; B. Sc. grads
moving on into graduate school can also apply. No one is overqualified,
and it's a fun way to spend the summer and make a couple of bucks. The
positions only pay about $11.00/hour, but working in the John Day Basin is
its own reward! Stunning scenery, frontier population density, remarkable
strata: it's all here in the 10,000 sq. miles of Oregon we work.

1) Assists park paleontologists in proper curation and storage of fossils
and maintenance of relevant documentation
2) Will enter specimen (vertebrate, invertebrate and botanical fossils)
catalog data into National Park Service collections management software
(ANCS+).
3) Carries out approved methods of surveying fossil localities along with
park paleontologists (vertebrate and paleobotany!).
4) Works with park paleontologists to collect fossils in proper fashion and
accurately record all pertinent accompanying data
5) Will be expected to learn, or should have prior knowledge of bone
morphology for identification of fragmentary fossil vertebrate remains.

If you or someone you know might be interested and want more details, don't
clutter the list but please reply directly to me at one of the emails
below.

cheers

Ted, Regan, Matt, and the crew
