The Department of Palaeontology of The Natural History Museum, London, is seeking a curator to help manage the fossil plant collections. We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual with a broad range of skills to join the Invertebrates A-Team, which is responsible for the collections of fossil plants, bryozoans, carpoids, echinoderms, arthropods, graptolites, trace fossils, and corals. Together, these comprise a substantial proportion of the Palaeontology Department's collections. The successful candidate will support the Museum's collections management activities by curating the fossil plants collections (including making collections information available to a wider audience via the WWW), monitoring the collection, carrying out remedial and preventative conservation (in association with the Palaeontology Conservation Unit where necessary), promoting the use of the collection by encouraging scientists to visit the Museum and supporting them during those visits, and by publishing their own research. At least at the outset, the curator will also assist in curating the bryozoan collections. In addition, the newly appointed curator will be expected to take an active role in the support of, and contribution to, the Museum's outreach and external income generation programmes. Starting salary: £20,726-£24,569 per annum (depending on experience).
