Greetings: John Day Fossil Beds National Monument currently has a paleobotanist position open to applicants from all sources. This is a unique opportunity to develop a research program of Tertiary paleobotany in a classic series of localities spanning 45 ma. Construction of a new paleontological center has just begun and should be completed in two years. This mountainous area of Oregon is classified as "frontier" (less than 2 hominids/square mile) but what it lacks in culture, it more than makes up for in outcrop. Please check out the Official job announcement: http://jsearch.usajobs.opm.gov/summary.asp?OPMControl=IH3165 and follow the links to apply. The salary starts at $45,285 and steps up to $58,867. Questions, etc., please contact me directly at the email address below. I can't be at SVP this year but will be at GSA; we may extend the deadline if there is a paucity of applicants. cheers Ted __________________________________________ Theodore Fremd Paleontologist, John Day Fossil Beds Science Advisor, Pacific West Region U.S. National Park Service 541-987-2333 x 19 32651 Highway 19 Kimberly, OR 97848 Ted_Fremd@nps.gov ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "There are geological arguments and methods of thought which, though based on a combination of dimly perceived, partially controlled guesses, personal intuitions, and all manner of nebulous factors (not excluding a species of low cunning), are yet in a geologic matter decisive." - H.
