Greetings: At the Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America to be held in Denver October 27-30, 2002 there will be a technical session (T82) entitled: Paleontology in National Parks: Sharing the Fossil Record with Managers and the Public. The National Park System includes over 150 parks with identified fossil resources, with a considerable range of geological time and the fossil record, including paleobotanical, invertebrate, vertebrate and trace fossils. While the fossil record in parks is diverse, they all share a common need: proper documentation and study in order to provide park staff with the proper information to order to make informed management decisions. The goal of this session is to provide a forum on the effective use of new approaches in paleontological research to recognize and document the paleontological resources in national park service units. Both oral presentations and posters on paleontological research conducted in National Parks and adjacent lands as well as applications of this research to resource management and education are welcome. The electronic abstract submissions form can be found on GSA's web site at http://www.geosociety.org/meetings/2002/techprog.htm. The closing date for abstract submission is midnight, Pacific Time, July 16.
