This just in. ---------- My name is David Kirby and I am researcher in Cornell University's Department of Science & Technology Studies. I am conducting interviews with scientists who have provided formal or informal technical assistance, information, etc. to fictional filmmakers during film production. While my current project focuses on the Jurassic Park series, I am collecting data on any scientist who advised on fictional films. If you consulted on a fictional film, or know of someone who did, I would appreciate it if you would contact me. The purpose of the my project is to examine the construction of science as it appears in fictional films. Since many people watch these films, I want to understand how the science on the screen is produced. I am especially interested in films where real scientists act as advisors and consultants to filmmakers. Ultimately, the project is designed to increase the public understanding of science with regards to how science in films is collaboration between various people, including scientists and filmmakers.
