Hi folks, I have an undergraduate student here at William and Mary who is very interested in the possibility of using 87Sr/86Sr ratios in bivalve shells to examine paleosalinity levels in the Yorktown formation (Pliocene) in Virginia. This topic is far far outside my area of expertise, and I have been plodding my way through the literature available, but I was wondering whether any of you could give me advice on: 1. Names and institutions of researchers currently using 87Sr/86Sr ratios (preferably in bivalve shells) to determine paleosalinity 2. Useful references for background, data collection, methodology, etc. 3. Feasibility of such a study Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
