When paleoanthropologists use "hominid", they are supposed to mean "hominid". If one uses "hominoid" one is supposed to mean that the fossil could be either pongid or hominid. Now some to assign a fossil to the Hominidae so that it will look important but this is not a particularly popular method today. At least this is what I think about the whole thing.
