British Micropalaeontology Society: Grants-in-Aid + CharlesDowni e Award Announcement



BMS GRANTS-IN-AID 
The Committee of the British Micropalaeontological Society has awarded three
Grants-in-Aid of £200 for 2001:

*	Claire Allen (Cardiff University) to contribute to the costs of
attending ICP VII in Sapporo, Japan and to visit Dr Richard Jordan (Yamagata
University). 
*	Heather Austin (University of St Andrews) to help towards travel
costs to the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO) to study benthic
meiofaunal ecology with Dr Moodley. 
*	James Eldrett (University of Southampton) to fund partially a visit
to College Station, Texas for research with Dr John Firth into palynological
responses to the Terminal Eocene Event in the Norwegian-Greenland Sea.

BMS CHARLES DOWNIE AWARD
The Committee of the British Micropalaeontological Society has awarded the
first Charles Downie Award to Dr Paul Dodsworth of Ichron Ltd. His winning
paper is entitled 'Trans-Atlantic dinoflagellate cyst stratigraphy across
the Cenomanian-Turonian (Cretaceous) Stage boundary' and was published in
Journal of Micropalaeontology, 19 (2000): 69-84. The Charles Downie Award is
a permanent memorial, established in 2000 by former colleagues and students
at Sheffield University, to recognize Charles' contribution to
micropalaeontology.
