For several reasons. 1.) I know the UC MOP administration and technical staff and I know that they are interested and very supportive of the PaleoNet idea and have been (even with these very frustrating bugs) very responsive to PaleoNet's needs/long-term goals. I don't know the people at cmsa1, but I believe it's a different group than the UC MOP. 2.) Up until the hacker attack the UC MOP listservers had an excellent record for stability. Once we can work these bugs out of the MOP system I'm confident that the MOP listservers will return to that record. BTW, migrating from ListProc (the UC MOP's current listserver software) to alternative software (e.g., LISTSERV) is by no means out of the question as an option. We are actively looking into that. 3.) One of the implicit reasons for PaleoNet's existence is to raise the electronic skill levels within the paleo. community as a whole (subscribers, administrators, system operators, list managers/owners, etc.). I feel that this goal is best achieved by keeping all of PaleoNet within the paleo. community.
