The problem with the attachment was certainly intersting, I guess. The
problem really lies with OSes. UNIX/LINUX, OS/2 and even NT are much more
receptive and forgiving (and crash resistant!) than Mac OS, Windows 3.x/95
and DOS. The best trick is to use a format that is as universal as
possible, e.g. JPEG or perhaps GIF. I routinely exchange specimen images
with other colleagues, and we have had no problems (despite using 4
different OSes). And if your OS does not have an image program capable of
reading one of those formats, surf the web. They're all out there for
free.
