Re: Avocational micropaleontologists

I am delighted to be proved wrong about the lack of avocational
micropaleontologists. The beauty of microscopic rads, forams, and diatoms
is captivating, even without considering their scientific interest. Bruce
Moore's request for "a pinch of sand" gives me to wonder why avocational
micropaleontologists have not organized themselves, at least informally, to
trade material, methods, and aspirations, either online or in person.

Here, too, is an opportunity for one or more professional
micropaleontologists to make a public contribution that would return
manifold to science while advancing their own careers. If you are curious
to see how professionals and amateurs can work together, take a look at
CONCH-L, the international list server for the Conchologists of America.
