This information is being passed along at the request of the organizers of the upcoming two-day Symposium with field trips Nov. 3-7, 1997 at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. I just found out the following information was released 7 working days ago. Please pass this on to those who might be interested: LEARNING FROM THE LAND: Scientific Inquiry for Planning & Managing the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument "This Two-Day Symposium will focus on the scientific inquiry of geologic structure, stratigraphy, paleontology and archaeology and diverse biological resources of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in order to assist the Management Planning Team with its task..Discipline specific and general poster sessions will be held with a panel discussion addressing the impacts of the formal establishment of the Monument and future scientific research." "Several Field Trips are scheduled Sunday and Monday prior to the symposium, specific to the Paleontology, Geology, Archaeology, Ecology/Biology and teacher-specific interests." There is currently a CALL FOR PAPERS, with abstracts due July 1, 1997. The deadline for abstracts is coming up quick (July 1), but we do need the best paleontological information possible in the management of this new Monument.
