Just a couple of new things to announce. Owing to PaleoNet's admirable ;-> record of stability over the last few months, Rob Guralnick and I have agreed that the time has come to re-institute the reply default that was a part of the original PaleoNet listserver design (when the PaleoNet list was based at the NHM). That default (replies go back to the list rather than back to the author) was adopted on the original list as a means of fostering communication on-line, so that others can listen in and take part in the discussion. When the list moved to Berkeley Rob and I opted for the more conservative default (replies go back to the author of the message you are responding to) in order to ease the (then) new list into the heavier traffic that can result from the list-directed reply setting. Then, once the list had moved a combination of busy schedules, hackers, system bugs, etc. conspired to make us put off reinstituting the original reply default. That is until now. So, be forewarned. In the next few days PaleoNet's reply default will be changed such that when you reply to a PaleoNet message your reply will go out to the entire list. If you don't want to reply to the entire list you can always use the options available on your e-mail software to redirect your message to any address you like. However, the default setting will be to direct all replies back to the list. In addition to this change I've recently added many new items to the PaleoNet Pages. Therefore, if you haven't visited one of the Page sites in a while you might want to set aside some time to do so in the near future. All the new additions are clearly marked by a "New!" icon. And, last but not least, PaleoNet has recently been invited to join the PaleoRing group of web sites. These are devoted primarily to the promotion of paleontology, paleoanthropology, prehistoric archaeology, and evolutionary biology on the world wide web. Links directly from PaleoNet to other PaleoRing sites are available on the PaleoNet Pages Home Page.
