Dear colleagues, Stephen Hasiotis has raised a question about my reply to Peter Sheehan's message regarding the $15 fee that GSA intends to impose on abstracts. I am sorry if my message gave the wrong idea. The fee would presumably apply to any abstract accepted for presentation at a GSA convention. It would apply to abstracts of paleontology papers that are submitted as well as to any other sort of paper. I am aware of no bias against paleontology at the GSA, and this fee is certainly not an indication of bias since it is directed at all abstracts. The members of the PS Council seem always to have had a good relationship with the GSA, and because of the long relationship between GSA and the Paleontological Society, paleontology sometimes seems to occupy a rather special positon. The abstract fee may be a bad idea, but it is not directed solely at paleontologists. Best wishes, Roger -- Roger L.
