What better place to post this request, than on a forum specially for the discussion of Paleontology. Here is my situation, I am currently a Geology student at Oklahoma State University studying Paleontology. I have been doing research every summer for the past two summers, and my mentors and I feel that it is time for me to diversify my research experience. Please forward this to anyone you might know who could put me in contact with any professional that might need a research assistant or any director of a summer internship program. Thank you very much, Joseph Hall ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To whom this may concern, My name is Joseph Hall, I am a student of Geology studying Invertebrate Paleontology here at Oklahoma State University, under the guidance of Dr. Darwin R. Boardman. I am currently an Oklahoma Alliance for Minority Participation in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Education (OKAMP-SMETE) scholar and have been doing summer research on Paleozoic Ammonoids of the North American Midcontinent sponsored by OKAMP-SMETE and NSF for the past two summers. Although I have enjoyed my research here every summer, I feel it is time that I diversify my experience in the field of Paleontology. My interests also extend beyond Invertebrate Paleontology to recently include an interest in the ecology of Paleozoic plant species such as Calamites, and Annilauria, to name just a few, and their environment of deposition. Having said that, I would also be interested in any research topics concerning biostratigraphy and/or paleoecology. I have had a great deal of training in most all the procedures for collecting and processing specimens through countless field trips, however I admittedly lack an appreciable amount of experience in measuring stratigraphic sections, but that is being changed as I speak, as I am assisting a fellow geology student in mapping subsurface strata in and around Stillwater, OK. We also plan to measure a section of Pennsylvanian shale in Jacksboro, TX before the semester is over. The list of courses I have had so far as is follows; Physical Geology, Historical Geology, Paleontology, Mineralogy, and I am currently taking Petrology. I could have taken Stratigraphy this semester, but I believe it will be so valuable to me for Field Camp, and for my career that I am holding it off until the semester before I go to Field Camp. I currently have a 2.95 GPA (It will hopefully be raised to above a 3.0 after this semester). I am also involved in a program in which once a year I take children and teachers from Whittier Elementary in Tulsa, OK on a field trip to collect fossils, discuss various aspects of Paleontology, show them "cool" fossils, and discuss reasons to continue their education. If you wish to contact any professors in the Geology department regarding my performance as a undergraduate student please feel free to contact the following people by phone at 405-744-6358 or by email; Dr. Gary F. Stewart (gfs@okway.okstate.edu), Dr. Darwin R. Boardman II (amm0001@okway.okstate.edu), and Dr. Zuhair Al-Shaieb (zuhair@okway.okstate.edu). Thank you for your time, Joseph Hall Student of Paleontology/Geology OKAMP-SMET Scholar Oklahoma State University
