     Dear colleagues -- I'm posting this because some of you have asked, 
     and because this seems an efficient way of getting the message across, 
     *not* because I want to use the net as a billboard. So I hope you'll 
     understand this, and excuse the cross-posting. My book 'Before The 
     Backbone: Views on the Origin of the Vertebrates' is due to be 
     published by Chapman and Hall on 22 July (not 11th July as I've told
