As a non-dinosaur worker, and a searcher of moral and financial support in the non-specialist community, I feel that the publicity given to dinosaurs has had some effects that are not entirely positive, while raising the overall consciousness of paleontology in a mainly positive manner. Most feel that paleontology is receiving enough attention, and therefore does not need further support. Pointing out that the discipline contains other specialties, and that they are undergoing hard times is something most people don't want to hear about, in the context of the success that dinosaurs are enjoying. (I know that dinosaur specialists feel that their funds are drying up too; lets not get into that discussion).
