Before I get a flurry of e-mail from the organizers of meetings devoted to
paleo. topics I was drawing a distinction between "specialty group"
meetings in which the topics under consideration are drawn from a single
branch of paleontology (e.g., vertebrate paleontology (the SVP meetings),
conodont paleontology [the Pander Society Meetings]) and general meetings
in which you might find papers being presented on virtually any aspect of
paleontology. To my knowledge NAPC is the only regularly-scheduled US
meeting that tries to cover the entire field. Elsewhere in the world there
are "pan-paleo." meetings that take place on a yearly basis (e.g., the
Paleontological Association meetings here in the UK). But in the US NAPC
seems to be it, at least for now.
