My turn: I agree with some of the recent comments about the value of biostratigraphy to exploration and many other issues. However the hope that academia will really help out may be misplaced. There is so much pressure for academics to be on the "cutting edge" that many departments look down on good alpha level paleontology. Even in those departments that do not, there is a strong pressure to publish and the work may not be as carefully carried out as it should be.
