find and describe

There seems to be problems in both directions.  Although it's hard to get
funding or employment studying and describing faunas, there's also a
widespread axiom among biologists and other neontologists that the fossil
record is too poor to tell us anything.  How can we convey how much and how
little we know at the same time?
