Hello PaleoNet members-- Recently, I agreed to act as a mentor for two kids, one about to enter the fourth grade and the other will soon go into the seventh grade. Both have wished to become paleontologists since they drew their first breaths. My dilemma is that I am neither a paleontologist nor a scientist and I need some advice to chart a proper course of study and experiences that would be most beneficial to these youngsters. I should think that there is a prescribed course to follow for one to attain some degree of understanding of things paleontological, even for those of this young age. Would any of you have a minute to offer some ideas regarding how I ought to direct these young intellectuals to help them reach their goals? Any suggestions regarding reading materials appropriate for that level would be especially welcome. I am looking for direction which will endure through the years, not just stuff for a summer's fun.
