Tom De Vrie correctly intimates that the image resolution on e-journal graphics/photos is NOT as good as that in printed works (actually, photos are close to 4000 dots/inch in effective resolution). BUT.....there is the possibility of using (for example) a device such as a SNAPPY! (a bargain at a street price of $199US) which will digitize video input, and allow a writer to present many images instead of only a single photo. Imagine the possibility of successively closer images being available right up to a quality macro image which, with today's cheap consumer camcorders borders on incredible (granted nothing like electron microscope plates, but..). I also envision a day in the not too distant future when we can take a photo/image from each of the six sides, then run the resultant images through a virtual reality "parser", which would create a 3-D model for us. Then we will be able to "enter" the world of the writer's examples and "see" for ourselves those features which make the specimen relevant to the text. Those not interested in the details simply don't click on the image component, and don't have to see any images. Daryl Fuller
