>>>> John Cooper, Natural History Museum, London, replies: Try: The Old
Forge Fossil Company, 15 Broad Street, Lyme Regis, Dorset, DT7 3QE, England.
Telephone: shop 01297-445977; workshop 01297-560005; fax 01297-445852. I
was there two weeks ago, and in the shop window there is a superb
restoration of an Oviraptor from the Gobi Desert. Their brochure states:
"Casts of this and other specimens are now available". Maybe they can
supply a replica/cast of a Velociraptor for you.
In the town, there is another fossil shop: Lyme Regis Fossil Shop
(Proprietor: Brian Langdon), 4 Bridge Street, Lyme Regis, DT7 3QA,
telephone 01297-442088, fax 01297-442422.
These two shops carry on the tradition of selling fossils in Lyme Regis,
begun by the two Mary Annings (mother and daughter) in the early part of
the 19th Century. The Lyme Regis Philpot Museum also sells fossils,
probably supplied by one or both of the above shops. The Philpot Museum is
built on the actual site of the house and shop where the Annings sold
their fossils, to Victorian tourists as well as to Royalty and famous men
of science.
Please feel free to mention my name if you contact these two shops. I
wish you success in your search. <<<<
