educated ones do. I think this is just a careless slip by the
reporter.

That is the catholic interpretation of big dead extinct things. Although
the Catholics should know better. Doesn't that mastodon predate Bishop
Usher's origin of the earth? Is this blasphemy published by an arm of
the Holy See?
