PaleoNet FTP Acess

If you are denied access to the PaleoNet FTP Site, the most likely
explanation is that your server is not registered with the Domian Name
Service. Not every institution lists their server. I'm not going to get
into the pros and cons of this requirement other than to say that the
exclusion of incoming queries from non-listed servers is an NHM security
policy that PaleoNet (as well as all NHM online resources) are required to
follow. In order to determine whether or not your server is listed you
should ask your local network manager. If your server is listed and you
are experiencing problems with access, contact me (perferably offline from
PaleoNet) and we'll get it sorted out.

With respect to the PalAss Newsletter .zip file, the file was created using
a program called WINZIP and I have successfully unpacked it using WINZIP
and PKZIP. It is written in .rtf so you must have access to a word
processor that can read the rtf format in order to translate it. The text
is up on the WWW at the following URL...

http://www.nhm.ac.uk/paleonet/PalAss/Newsl26.html

This address works (I just tried it) and should give non-FTP users ready
access to the text. The address is CASE SENSITIVE, however, so please
check to be sure you have the uppercase and lowercase letters right.

Once again, if you are having problems with FTP or WWW access to
PaleoNet-related materials please contact me directly (that's what I'm here
for).
