It seems to me that the industry paleo group should be a good thing. They have invited non-industry types, at least on occasion. If this serves to focus new energy into paleo or bring new ideas to a very difficult situation, then I welcome their efforts. If it does not, then nothing is lost, at least from an academic position. However, since the health of the industry directly impacts what academics do through jobs for their students, subscriptions to journals, memberships in societies, donations to societies, and even an occasional grant or consulting stint, I am all for their efforts. I hope the group will continue to include academics and other paleo types so that a discipline-wide effort can be maintained. I wish them well in those efforts, and hope that the concern of other industrial paleontologists is unwarranted. Jere H.
