Re: ftp and sci.bio.paleontology

Norm: I voted for sci.bio.paleontology on Usenet because I like to see a
lot of discussion going on about paleontology in wide circles. It could be
a great meeting place for all kinds of devotees and more casual observers.
Mixing it with Paleonet doesn't seem a good idea, for the reasons stated
by Henry Gee and others. (In my experience, too, Usenet is very, very
noisy.) It's not a matter of keeping things secret, just of adjusting the
message after the audience. I see sci.bio.paleontology as a place where
experts and non-experts can interact higgledy-piggledy for the
enlightenment of both, whereas Paleonet is a forum for palaeontologists.
And already now my mailbox is bulging, so I'm looking forward to the
Paleonet digests you talked about rather than getting flooded from Usenet.
