Subject: Good Times hoax
Greetings.
An email-fueled rumor of a virus or trojan named "Good Times" appears to be
false. Tracing message headers back led me to Swarthmore College, where
the computing staff is looking for a student suspected of initiating the
rumor. The Swarthmore help desk laughed at the message (sent to over a
dozen Eastern schools) that over 100 users had their disks erased--it
didn't happen.
The main evidence is that no one has seen the alleged virus/trojan. All
reports are second hand. Variations on the rumor have "Good Times"
ravaging AOL users.
Unless someone has a first-hand report of an actual virus or trojan, I
think it's safe to put the brakes on this rumor.
