paleonet Paleobiology Database workshop at GSA

Friends of the Paleobiology Database:

The Paleobiology Database will hold a hands-on workshop on Tuesday,
October 24th during the annual Geological Society of America meeting
in Philadelphia. The workshop will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at
the Loews Philadelphia Hotel on 1200 Market Street, two blocks east
of Penn Square and two blocks south of the convention center at 12th
Street.

Database Coordinator John Alroy and other experienced Database
contributors will be on hand to provide instruction. Topics will
include:

* How to log in and navigate the contributors' area
* Entering references
* Entering taxonomic names and opinions
* Entering collections and occurrences
* Other data entry tools
* Query, analysis, and download tools

Everyone is welcome to attend, and all professional scientists are
welcome to join the Database and become contributors. Information on
joining is at:

http://paleodb.org/cgi-bin/bridge.pl?
user=Guest&action=displayPage&page=join_us

We also welcome current members who want to familiarize themselves
better with the system.

We will use an LCD projector to show you around the web site, and we
will enter data together onto a backup server to demonstrate the
system. You are welcome to bring your laptop and a published paper of
your own choice so you can enter data from it.

Please spread the word about the workshop. We look forward to seeing
you there!

Cheers,

John Alroy
