Dear Paleonet, I am looking for some clarification about the official Pliocene time scale. Gradstein et al., 2004 seems to define the Piacenzian as Middle Pliocene (Page 416 and Figure 21.1) But the color plates in the front part of the volume does not include the Middle Pliocene - the Piacenzian and Gelasian are lumped together in the Late Pliocene. Is there officially Middle Pliocene time? Please respond off list. Thank you.
